Statement of John Flicker, National Audubon Society President and CEO Concerning House approval of The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009
"Passage of the Waxman-Markey bill is an historic step forward for the health of people, nature and our economy. It gives Congress a solid foundation for strong, comprehensive climate legislation. It promises a fighting chance to hundreds of birds and other species facing extinction if we don't get climate change under control. And it offers a clean-energy jumpstart for our stalled economy by creating millions of new jobs.
"We're gaining momentum as we near the finish line in a critical race for our energy future. The Senate can now quicken the pace. They should seize the opportunity to make this important legislation stronger still.
