TogetherGreen Gears Up for Year II
of Nationwide Volunteer Days

With summer here, the first year of TogetherGreen Volunteer Days comes to a close-but the impact of its 240 events will continue to benefit the environment for years to come!

Since TogetherGreen Volunteer Days launched last September, 9,000 volunteers have donated over 43,000 hours of time to environmental projects. Additionally, dozens of major partner organizations, including the Sierra Club, AmeriCorps, and the US Army Corps of Engineers have worked with Volunteer Day organizers, plus many more local schools, businesses and community organizations.

Among the great stories:

  • The Wabash Valley Audubon Society made a significant impact for conservation through nestbox installation and habitat restoration. Their volunteers built and installed the very first nestboxes at Chinook FWA, a reclaimed strip mine. And the Terre Haute Tribune-Star newspaper gave front page treatment to the volunteer honeysuckle removal on Earth Day.

  • The Greater Ozarks Audubon Society, under President Charley Burwick, engaged over 200 volunteers. From blazing a trail around Lake Springfield to cleaning up South Creek, volunteers turned out in droves to improve their local environment. Their Volunteer Days have been featured in the Springfield News-Leader newspaper eight times!

  • Broward County Audubon made big strides in strengthening the volunteer network in South Florida by surpassing more than 1300 volunteer hours! They capped off their volunteer commitment with an Earth Day celebration of more than 100 volunteers removing exotic species and planting native plants like red mangrove.

  • Hundreds of Toyota employees and their families from across the country have participated in TogetherGreen volunteer events in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and San Antonio and will continue to join the efforts over the five-year initiative.
