Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary Research Permits

The mission of Audubon of Florida and National Audubon is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.  We seek to support and encourage natural science research, provided that these studies enhance understanding of the Sanctuary’s natural resources, processes and values.

Scientific research and collecting permits are required by all individuals seeking to conduct scientific studies in Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.  Research permit applications and proposals go through a review process in order to ensure that Sanctuary resources are not impaired and that visitor experiences are not unduly impacted by proposed activities.

NOTE: All visiting researchers must sign a liability waiver before conducting research in the Sanctuary.  Additionally, researchers working in the back-country must be accompanied by Sanctuary staff at all times.  While we will strive to cooperate with and assist research efforts that benefit our natural resources, time-intensive field work may be difficult to accommodate.

Investigators interested in conducting research at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary are required to submit both an application and a research proposal for consideration.

2.  Complete the 1-page application form.  This form can be filled out electronically using the free Adobe Reader and saved.

3.  Complete a research proposal by including the information specified in ‘Research Proposal Guidelines’.  Proposals should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents or PDF’s.

4.  Submit completed application package (application + proposal) via email to Dr. Shawn Liston: sliston@audubon.org.  Please allow 60 days for evaluation and approval.
