Audubon's Birdathon Causes

Fund the Audubon State Office, Center, Sanctuary, Campaign, Science Program or Education Program of your choice. Indicate your chapter's cause choice on the Birdathon registration form.

Every penny raised through the Birdathon benefits birds, other wildlife and their habitat. Audubon is working for you and wildlife.

High Priority Campaigns and Key Legislative Programs

  • Conserving birds and their habitat through citizen science (BirdSource, Christmas Bird Count), protecting key habitats (Important Bird Areas), eBird, identifying high-priority species (WatchList), and other Partners in Flight initiatives.

  • Funding vital natural resources protection programs in the Farm Bill and Department of Interior: Wetlands Reserve Program; Grasslands Reserve Program; State Wildlife Grants; Neotropical Migratory Bird Act; North American Wetlands Conservation Act

  • Preserving key natural resource protections: Clean Air Act; Clean Water Act; Endangered Species Act

  • Saving Birds Beyond Our Borders: promoting responsible global voluntary family planning programs to reduce humans' impact on the environment

  • Protecting and promoting growth of America's National Wildlife Refuges, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

  • Eliminating the spread of devastating invasive species

  • Protecting, restoring and maintaining vital regional ecosystems such as the Everglades, Mississippi River, Platte River, Long Island Sound, Coastal Louisiana, regional forests

Education and Science

  • Audubon Adventures program for grades 4-6 reaches 200,000 children in over 6,000 classrooms and includes a complete classroom resource kit for study of nature and the environment.

  • Audubon Centers and Education programs are connecting people to nature in communities in 29 states across the country, reaching over 1 million youths and adults annually.

  • Ecology Camps and Workshops for adults are located in Maine. Youth Camps are held in Maine and Vermont each summer. Science-based, fun-infused summer and holiday day camps are held at most of our Centers across the country.

  • The Christmas Bird Count was founded in 1900 and today includes more than 45,000 participating volunteer birders.

  • Audubon At Home programs and Web-based materials inspire personal conservation action to improve the environmental health and habitat quality of our yards and neighborhoods.

  • Audubon's annual State of the Birds Report sums up the status of 654 bird species native to the continental United States according to the country's four major types of natural habitat - grass, shrubs, trees and water.

  • As the U.S. Partner for BirdLife International, Audubon works through the Important Bird Area (IBA) Program to identify, conserve and protect a network of Important Bird Areas that provide critical habitat for birds
