Q:
|
What is the North American Migration Count?
|
| A: |
It's similar to Audubon's Christmas Bird Count,
but with the following twists:
- The Count is conducted on one day, the second Saturday in May,
in specified counties of 48 states. This year the date falls on
May 11.
- The goal of the Count is to get a snapshot of the movement peaks
of Neotropical species while they are still in the lower 48 states.
May 11 will not be the peak of migration everywhere, but it offers
an overall picture of the movement peaks.

| Q: |
How do you conduct a Birdathon in conjunction with the North
American Migration Count?
|
| A: |
Contact Sara Rosenthal(1-800-647-BIRD) for
the name, address and phone number of your state's Count coordinator.
- The state and county coordinators will link you with other Count
participants in your area.
- Adjust your pledge requests according to a species count which
is likely to be lower than with a traditional Birdathon count.
We recommend requesting a fixed amount for a pledge.
- Spend May 11 in the field counting birds in your specified county.
This is not just a check list. Keep track of the miles and hours
you spend in each individual county.
- Send your data to the state coordinator and collect your Birdathon
pledges!
