Launched in 2003 the Coastal Bird Conservation Program (CBCP) aims to halt and reverse declines of North American “at-risk” waterbirds. The CBCP works with Audubon national, state, and local programs to assess and prioritize species and sites of global, national, and regional importance to coastal birds and other waterbirds in the western hemisphere. Audubon works with every interested partner—government, non-profit, and private—to increase on-the-ground protection of these species and the sites that support their breeding and non-breeding populations. Perhaps no single type of habitat and associated suite of bird species are more vulnerable and threatened as those associated with our rapidly developing coasts. The CBCP asks anyone with an interest in coastal bird conservation or partnering opportunities to contact us at coastalbirds@audubon.org. The CBCP welcomes volunteers to assist in our work to protect these birds by adopting a local site or Important Bird Area; collecting data in the field using our survey forms, wardening sites to protect vulnerable birds from human disturbance, or asking about current projects and needs.
