OBJECTIVES:

THIS FOURTH IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS CONFERENCE WILL FOCUS ON FIVE CENTRAL THEMES:
      • IBA CRITERIA AT THE CONTINENTAL AND GLOBAL LEVELS
      • NEW AND ENHANCED IBA DATABASE
      • CONSERVATION PLANNING FOR IBAs
      • MONITORING AT IBAs
      • IBAs THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE

As in previous years, the conference will provide an opportunity to review and discuss updates regarding IBA efforts at the state and national level, as well as our coordination with continental and global efforts through BirdLife International. The conference will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between IBA coordinators and partners - providing insight into successes, challenges, and ways to develop and enhance IBA programs. In particular we hope to have detailed explanation and review of the application of continental and global criteria and their utility relative to state-level IBAs, demonstration of and training on the new IBA database, and the roll-out of Audubon's approach to conservation planning focused on Important Bird Areas.
