INDIANA’S IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS PROGRAM

Indiana’s Important Bird Areas Program began several years ago as a volunteer driven program. Since its inception a technical committee has been formed to select and nominate potential IBA sites based on scientific criteria. The Indiana Ornithological Technical Committee selects Important Bird Areas encompassing public and private lands. These sites include migratory staging areas, winter feeding and prime breeding areas for songbirds, wading birds and other bird species. The Technical Committee has identified and prioritized additional potential IBA sites in Indiana which will be selected by the committee on an ongoing basis.
