The Seabird Center  is a three part program of education, research and managment to support the overall mission of Audubon in Maine.

The Center is a vital part of Audubon’s overall goal of protecting birds and their habitats and shaping human values and behaviors that effect our environment.

A MODERN INTERPRETIVE FACILITY WITH OUTSTANDING EDUCATION PROGRAMS:

Visiting the Seabird Center is enjoyable and educational.  Visitors leave the Seabird Center with greater knowledge about seabird  ecology and Maine’s unique importance as a vital seabird nesting area.  Housed in a beautiful, technologically and architecturally impressive, yet appropriate setting, the “attraction” of the seabird center is felt by both students and tourists interested in nature.  During the school year the center is a rewarding classroom field trip destination that adds to the study of science, math and ecology.

During the region’s distinct tourist season, the facility becomes the place to learn about Maine’s unique seabird islands.  Both students and visiting public leave the Center with an awareness that Maine seabird islands are a world-class treasure because of the diversity of species, number of nesting colonies and the long history of human use. They are comparable to more remote seabird locations such as the  Galapagos Islands or Iceland.  The Seabird Center strengthens a visitor’s sense of place and furthers an understanding of our personal relationship to the earth and our responsibility to serve as caring stewards.

Seabird center programs provide outreach to schools throughout Maine and coastal New England, as part of Audubon’s Centers Network in Maine.
