Adopt-A-Puffin
|
The Adopt-a-Puffin
Program from Project Puffin is an excellent way for people
to get involved in helping Atlantic Puffins in Maine. Adopted
puffins come complete with a history and annual updates of
the puffin's achievements.

| Puffin K
is a member of Project Puffin's Adopt-a-Puffin Program. It was
born in the days immediately preceding June 18th, 1995at burrow
#3, Eastern Egg Rock Island, Muscongus Bay, Maine. June 18th
was the first observed feeding giving researchers an approximate
date of hatching. Puffin K was "banded" on July 25th,
1995 by placing a metal and a plastic band aroud its legs. At
time of banding several measurements are take of the puffin
chick (called a puffling) including wing and bill length. This
information helps researchers learn about the natural history
of puffins. K’s weight at banding was 320 grams, length 31.8
cm, and height 19 cm. |

other puffin chicks. Bicolor 75 fledged from Eastern Egg Rock,
Maine on August 24, 1978, a cool evening with a northerly
