It's Hawk Watching Season! Time to get out!

As the days become crisp and the fall colors emerge, our eyes are drawn to the skies to watch for those captivating birds-of-prey as they migrate along Pennsylvania's ridges. Pack a lunch and spend a beautiful autumn day gazing at stunning vistas and learning about these fascinating birds at one of the many hawk watching sites along the Kittatinny Ridge, including Audubon's own Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch northwest of Carlisle. Great educational and recreational opportunities for you and your family!

PA Names 85th Important Bird Area
Audubon Pennsylvania recently designated 42,000 acres in Chester County, as its newest Important Bird Area (IBA). The Laurels, King Ranch, and Stroud IBA contains the largest contiguous tract of permanently preserved land in the greater Philadelphia region and hosts several species of grassland-nesting birds whose populations are decreasing. Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Plan
The Kittatinny Ridge is an important greenway, well known for its hiking opportunities, hawk watching, wildlife habitat, scenic views, and wellhead protection. The Conservation Plan gives an overview of the cultural and natural resources of the Kittatinny Ridge and recommends strategies and priorities for protecting the Ridge corridor for people and ecological integrity.
