Pourchot Leaves Audubon to Represent Interior Secretary in Alaska
.

May 7, 2009—Today, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that he has hired Mr. Pat Pourchot as Special Assistant to the Secretary for Alaska. Pourchot will leave his current job as the Senior Policy Representative for Audubon Alaska after Memorial Day.

“For the last two and a half years, Audubon has been proud to draw on Pat Pourchot’s great knowledge and understanding of Alaska,” said Stan Senner, Executive Director of Audubon Alaska.

“Pat will be a tremendous asset to the Secretary of the Interior, and he can be counted on to serve Alaska—its people, as well as its wildlife and environment—thoughtfully and with balance, integrity, and vision.”

Pourchot has worked in Alaska most of his adult life, dating back to 1972 when he worked as a Natural Resources Specialist for the Department of the Interior. Pourchot has worked for Native corporations and for Senator Mike Gravel. He served in both houses of the Alaska State Legislature and in the cabinet of Governor Tony Knowles, including as Commissioner of Natural Resources.

Audubon is celebrating its centennial year of protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them. Our national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations, engage millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences.
