Nature Education
History has shown
that people will protect only what they understand, and will understand
only what they are taught. Nowhere is this more true than with the
environment.
Audubon has
embarked on an ambitious campaign to establish 1,000 Audubon Centers
across the U.S. by the year 2020. Our Centers will be the libraries of
nature, not only teaching people about the environment, but instilling
conservation values and helping people of all ages forge a deep and
personal bond with nature. By 2020, Audubon Centers will serve one in
every four school children each year.
Audubon insists
that environmental education should be readily available to ALL. Our
programs strive to reach the broadest possible diversity of audiences
with special emphasis on traditionally under-served communities where
children have the least opportunity to connect with nature.
Programs at Audubon
Centers focus on:
- A lifetime of learning,
beginning in childhood and continuing in graduated states through
programs for youth, teens, students, adults, and elder citizens.
- Community based program
delivery, with Audubon Centers functioning as local headquarters for
environmental learning and action.
Currently, two
Audubon Centers are under development in Colorado. To learn more about
