The Gateways
to Agriculture curriculum expands on its two predecessors,
Gateways to Conservation I and II, and provides environmental
education centers with a series of engaging lessons focused
on the role of agriculture in our daily lives. As students
progress from grade one through eight, completing Gateways
to Conservation I and II, they develop a relationship to the
Chesapeake Bay and the wildlife that depend on its diverse
ecosystems. Gateways to Agriculture, for students in grades
nine through twelve, continues to explore conservation with
a focus on how humans interact with the land and its resources.
This project was also funded by the Chesapeake
Bay Gateways Network.
Gateways
to Conservation II - Similar to Gateways to Conservation
I for grades 1-5, This curriculum was created as a joint project
of Pickering Creek Audubon Center and the Chesapeake
Bay Gateways Network designed to complement middle school
science education. The curriculum gives background information,
exciting hands-on learning adventures and more to help students
and teachers explore the outdoors in conjunction with a nearby
nature center, while gaining an understanding of their relationship
to the Chesapeake Bay.
