Made in the Glades

The May-June 2009 Audubon magazine features an article entitled “Made in the Glades” highlighting Missouri’s first Audubon Center, Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center in Joplin, Missouri. The story was also included on National Audubon Society’s homepage as the first feature article listed for Audubon magazine.

You can still read the article online by clicking this link. It is a fantastic piece complete with stunning photos that will inspire visitors to come and experience for themselves the wonders of the glade.

Toyota Together Green Grant aids in Greater Prairie-Chicken Recovery Project

Multiple landowners near Cole Camp, Missouri are participating in a cost share program to encourage grassland restoration efforts like tree removals and fescue conversion on their property for the benefit of Greater Prairie-Chicken and other grassland birds. Funding for this program is being provided by Audubon Missouri’s Cole Camp Prairies’ office through a grant received from the Toyota TogetherGreen initiative.

Cost-share assistance will be given to landowners within a 5 miles radius of a recently identified Greater Prairie-Chicken booming ground. Besides tree removal, the TogetherGreen funds can be used to eradicate fescue within native prairie areas or toward establishing native warm season grasses where fescue or row-crop is currently established.

If you would like to learn more about how you can help, contact Korey Wolfe, Grassland Director at 660-668-3810.
