Volunteer Opportunities

Match your skills and experience with our needs while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of this remarkable piece of native tallgrass prairie. Help is needed during regular operating hours, weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 1 to 5 p.m. Shifts lasting at least two hours are requested.

Lead education field trips and public programs for all ages. More information here.

Habitat maintenance

Improve the strength and vitality of the prairie by locating and removing from prairie areas invasive plant species (chief among them are musk thistle, honey locust, and eastern redcedar). Work time period is March-October. All tools and training will be provided. Volunteers are asked to provide work gloves and have the ability to walk over uneven terrain.

Weekend staff assistant

Assist staff in greeting visitors, answering phone, and responding to visitor questions. Orientation training provided.

Roadside clean-up

Help beautify our boundary by collecting trash along a three-mile strip of country road from our property south to Hwy. 33. After staff collects full trash bags, volunteer can assist with sorting out recyclables. Safety vest, gloves, and bags will be provided.
