Spring Creek Prairie is one of Audubon's 24 Important Birds Areas in Nebraska! Find out more about this important conservation effort.

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is an 808-acre tallgrass prairie nature preserve located 20 minutes southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitors can enjoy miles of walking trails, nearly 650 acres of native (never plowed) tallgrass prairie, ponds and wetlands, wildflowers and grasses, a diverse assortment of birds and other wildlife, historic mid-19th century wagon ruts, peaceful surroundings, and beautiful scenic vistas. Volunteer opportunities are available and education programs for all ages are offered year-round.

Women at the Spring   The workshop on Saturday, April 19, has been canceled.

A workshop series created to connect women to the prairie through the study of its history, the role of women then and now, and how visual and performing arts within a natural habitat can strengthen and guide women.

New Year's Winter Walkabout
Saturday, January 5     10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon & 1:00-3:00 p.m.
— Don your warmest winter togs and come explore some of the more remote areas of Spring Creek Prairie.

Becoming a Winter Naturalist
Saturday, February 2     10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
— Learn more about how plants and animals cope with whatever Mother Nature has to offer.

Snug as a Bug
Saturday, February 9    10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
— Probe through leaf litter and logs to discover a variety of spineless wonders wiling away the winter.

Weaving: Stories and Baskets
Saturday, March 1     9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
— Local artist and basket weaver Judy Hart will facilitate this hands-on basket weaving workshop.

In Search of a Season: A Spring Treasure Hunt
Saturday, March 29     9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
— Teams outfitted with a treasure map and clues will search for treasure chests hidden along the trail.

New
Historical Marker

Our new state historical marker is now in place north of the driveway at the entrance to Spring Creek Prairie. The marker memorializes the existing on-site wagon ruts from the Nebraska City-Fort Kearny Cutoff to the Oregon Trail. The sign was authorized by the Nebraska State Historical Society as part of the Nebraska Historical Marker Program.
