Baca Park is located southwest of the plaza at Taos. Take NM 240 toward Ranchitos turning south (left) on Camino del Medio and follow this to the park. Within the park is a new Nature Trail that follows the Rio Fernando de Taos (the same one that flows through Taos Canyon). The stream is very marshy at this point with many cat-tails and willows along the bank. A newly constructed boardwalk follows the stream for a few hundred yards. In addition to the normal urban birds, a number of specialties have been observed here including Southwestern Willow Flycatcher that appear every summer in the cattails at the end of the boardwalk. (Please do not play tapes to attract this endangered species.) This is a pleasant and convenient place to bird that can contain surprises.
