AGES Post-Kindergarten-7 YEARS

July 7-11 Snakes, Bats, and Wolves: Discover some of the mysteries of predators. Investigate how lizards, bats, raptors, and wolves find and catch their prey. Explore the trails to find signs of predators and their prey. Learn about New Mexico predators as you become a bear, mountain lion, snake and hawk!

July 28-August 1 Nature Exploration: Using nature as our inspiration, we will create art and develop games using our natural resources. Create a clay pot and make paint brushes and paints from nature as we listen to wildlife legends on the trail.

AGES 7-9 YEARS

June 16-20 Powerful Pollinators: Soar into the world of pollinators! Discover how animals such as birds, butterflies, bees, and bats help plants create seeds. Turn into your favorite pollinator as we explore the outdoors learning about native plants.

July 14-18 Wild Hunters: As we explore the trails, find signs of predators and prey as you create your own field guide. Discover the unique relationships between predators and their prey and observe clues of local wildlife including bats, snakes, bears, and bobcats!

August 4-8 Second Annual No-Waste Camp Challenge Emphasizing composting and recycling, learn innovative ways to be sustainable as we embark on Audubon’s second no-waste camp. Through the use of natural dyes, create your own nature bandana and participate in our recycle relay race! Create music inspired by nature and build art from recycled materials.

AGES 9-11 YEARS
LOTS OF HIKING AND OUTDOOR EXPLORATIONS FOR THIS AGE GROUP!

June 23-27 Birds. Butterflies. Bats, and Bees: Explore how birds, butterflies, bats, and bees transfer pollen from one plant to another and contribute to making plant seeds. Observe local pollinators in their native habitat and create a special native plant project to bring home.

July 21-25 Wildlife Explorers: Create your own wildlife legends about local predators in Bear Canyon. Learn t0 spot signs of animals by becoming a wildlife detective! Play a challenging game catching prey using special skills like stalking, flight and practice the art of surprise.

July 25(7:30 PM) — July 26(9 AM) Wildlife Overnight: Enjoy special hike, share wildlife stories and slumber under the stars!

Audubon Camp Information
All of our Audubon Summer Day Camps are filled with science investigations, nature explorations, creative arts, stories, hiking, and active play in the outdoors. A variety of themes is offered throughout the summer, and activities are adapted for each age group. Parents will receive a camp activity schedule at the beginning of each camp session. A morning and afternoon snack are provided and campers are expected to bring their own lunch.

Payment Information

Camp Session:
      Members: $225/week
      Non-members: $250/week
Wilderness Overnight (July 21-22, 9-11 yrs old): $40
Pre-Care (8-9AM): $6/day
After-Care (3:30-5PM): $9/day
Randall Davey Audubon Center Family Membership:
      Minimum donation of $45 annually provides
      your family with free trail admissions and
      discounts in our Nature Store.
      Memberships and any added contributions fully deductible.

Registration Information

At Audubon, we value the input provided by parents. Due to a high number of requests by parents, we are pleased to offer online camp registration. Camp registration will begin on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at 9:00 AM on the nm.audubon.org website. All camp registrations will be handled through an nm.audubon.org. This online registration system will have a registration form and you will be able to pay via credit card or check, and print out confirmations. We will still accept in-person registrations; however, all in-person registrations will be processed through this online registration system which will prioritize all registrations. Registrations received before this date will not be given preference.

Cancellation Policy

CANCELLATIONS MUST BE IN WRITING! If cancellations are received at least 3 weeks prior to the scheduled camp session, tuition less a non-refundable $25 administrative fee will be refunded. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR CANCELLATIONS WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF SCHEDULED CAMPS.

Pre- and After Camp Care

Pre- and After-Camp Care is available for each camp session. Pre-Care will be offered from 8-9AM for $6/day. After-Care will be offered from 3:30-5:00 PM for a cost of $9/day. Payment is required in advance.

Youth Assistants: Ages 12-18 Years

Youth Counselors are a key part of Audubon Summer Camp.

Applications will be available starting April 1, 2008 and all applications are due by April 30, 2008.

Mandatory Youth Assistant TRAINING will be held May 17, 2008!

Youth Counselors-in-Training (Ages 12-14) are volunteer positions that provide the skills needed to become a successful camp counselor at Audubon Camp or other summer camps, and can lead to a Y.C.I.T. certificate. Positions are available in the morning or afternoon.

Youth Counselors (Ages 14-18) are paid positions at the City of Santa Fe minimum wage. Youth counselors work either the morning or the afternoon shift.

Funding for Youth Assistant positions is provided by a grant from the City of Santa Fe. The grant stipulates that 50% of Youth Assistants be from low-income families and parents may be asked to provide proof of income.

Camp Scholarships

Audubon donors and Wild Birds Unlimited are generously sponsoring students from low-income families for Audubon Summer Camp 2008. Each scholarship covers the cost for one week of camp. Please contact us at 983-4609 or visit nm.audubon.org after March 1, 2008 for application forms.
