The woods and scrub along this road are excellent for Mexican Jay (R); and Gray Flycatcher, Hutton’s and Gray Vireo (rare), Black-throated Gray Warbler and Black-chinned Sparrow (5). Bendire’s Thrasher and Scott’s Oriole (5) are possible in desert scrub on the west side of the range.
Habitat: Desert scrub; pinyon-juniper and oak woodland; ponderosa pine forest.
Location: From Silver City go west on US 180 about 13 miles. Turn left on Mangas Valley Road towards Tyrone. At 4.8 miles, turn right on an excellent dirt- surface FR 851.
