Hikes along Whitewater Creek provide birding and mining history. On the 1.1- mile hike into the gorge, look for Canyon Wren and Rufous-crowned Sparrow (R); and White-throated Swift, Cordilleran Flycatcher, American Dipper and Painted Redstart (M/S).
Habitat: Hillside oak scrub; riparian woodland , with large sycamores and cottonwoods.
Location: From US 180 in Glenwood, turn onto NM 174. Proceed about 5 miles to the parking lot.
