Birding along the winding road and at the monument may produce Warbling Vireo, Painted Redstart and Lazuli Bunting (5); and Pinyon Jay (R). The visitor center, campground and trails offer good birding.
Habitat: Riparian and scrub forest.
Location: From US 180 in Silver City take NM 15 north through Pinos Altos 45 miles to the road’s end.
