Granite Gap is best from mid-fall to mid-spring. Crissal Thrasher, Verdin and Black-throated Sparrow (R); Bendire’s Thrasher and Black-tailed Gnatcatcher (S).
Habitat: Desert scrub.
Location: From Lordsburg go west on 1-10 to Exit 5 (Road Forks). Drive south on NM 80 for 11 miles. Turn right onto an unmarked dirt track. At the entrance to the site is a wire gate. Take the left fork, go 0.5 mile along a sandy road, and park near the first, large rock cluster. Do not drive past the cut in the rocks. The road is impassable when wet.
