Las Palomas Marsh, depending on water levels, offers good shore and marsh birding, including Marsh Wren and Virginia Rail (R). Desert scrub species and winter sparrows are numerous. The cottonwoods at the south end may be productive during migration. You may walk to the Rio Grande from here.
Habitat: Desert scrub; marsh; riparian woodland; and grassland.
Location: Take 1-25 to Exit 71 (Las Palomas). Head east for 0.7 mile to the frontage road. Turn left for 0.2 mile. Turn right on a gravel road for 0.8 mile, bear to your left, and find a place to park.
