Birdathon What
is Birdathon?
Birdathon is one of the world's largest competitive birding
and fundraising events. Each spring, thousands of participants—young
and old, from novice to expert—volunteer to scour the
countryside in an effort to count as many bird species as
they can find.
The participants include local chapter
members, Audubon staff, National and state board members,
as well as others who provide leadership to the organization
by helping to raise awareness about Audubon's mission. They
then collect on pledges they have secured from family, friends,
coworkers, and anyone else they can.
Some people pledge anywhere from 25 cents
to 10 dollars or more per bird, while others prefer to make
a flat pledge of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more…
Birdathon is one more way for you to spread
the word that Audubon protects birds, wildlife and their habitats.
Every time we ask for a pledge we are making one more person
aware of who we are, and what we do.
Each year Audubon New York holds two birdathons—the
Leadership Birdathon and the Staff Birdathon.
Leadership Birdathon: Tuesday, May 13
Participants include members of our Board of Directors and
Stewardship Committee, as well as friends and family.
Staff Birdathon: Wednesday and Thursday,
May 16-17
Includes staff members all across New York.
