Where Does the Money Go?
We run a tight ship at Audubon Ohio. We occupy simple offices
that emphasize utility over decor. We compensate our employees at rates that
are competitive, but that reflect the sacrifices inherent in not-for-profit
public interest work. Our goal is to deliver effective programs at the lowest
possible cost. We try to stay lean in order to travel light.
Our conservation and citizen science programs take up the
largest part of our budget. These include our Important Bird Area program, our
conservation policy efforts and the Audubon At Home program.
Our education programs take up the next largest part of our
budget. The principal component of our education programs is our campaign to
develop a system of Audubon nature education centers around Ohio. Ongoing
annual support for our education programs is supplemented by capital campaigns
to develop particular facilities, such as the Columbus Audubon Center now under
development.
Chapter support is the other major recipient of our funding.
We offer four visits to each of our 19 active chapters per year, and also
provide ongoing support between meetings. We make targeted grants to our
chapters for particular projects.
At Audubon Ohio we know how to stretch a dollar for maximum impact.
