Herbicide/Licensed Providers:
The following agencies can assist with herbicide licensing and training.
Texas Department of Agriculture
Natural Resource Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency
Texas Cooperative Extension
Bird Forestry (in East Texas) also do large tree plantings
Nonregulated herbicides such as glyphosate (the active ingredient in roundup), used for control of herbaceous plants (kills bermudagrass and bahiagrass at an adequate rate) and remedy (used for control of woody plants) can usually be purchased at your local coop or feed store.
Management Plans:
Management plans can be provided by visiting with your county TPWD biologist. Audubon Texas also provides management plans for managing quail and grassland birds. Contact Jason Hardin, Quail and Grassland Birds Program Coordinator for assistance.
Technical/Financial Assistance:
Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service. Find contacts for the FSA/NRCS offices and information about Farm Bill Programs (EQIP, WHIP, CRP, etc) in your area.
Tax Valuations for Wildlife:
Visit your county appraisal district about the qualifications for a wildlife tax valuation. This program provides greater flexibility for habitat management in some situations. You will be required to fill out a TPWD wildlife management plan and provide an annual report to your county office
