Forest Conservation
Audubon Washington advocates for policies that balance our
evergreen quality of life and diverse forest ecosystems with
sustainable industries in timber and forest products. To that
end, we have been working on improvements to the state's failing
Forest Practice Rules designed to protect the Northern Spotted
Owl. At the August 9, 2005 Forest Practice Board meeting,
we successfully convinced board members to take action to
improve the rules. Click here
to read more about our concerns and proposed solutions.
In October, the court agreed that new
measures must be taken by the board to protect wildlife. Read

In November, Audubon Washington and Seattle
Audubon urged the Forest Practices Board to take strong measures
to better conserve state forests. Read Audubon letter here.

In late September, a Superior Court judge
agreed with Audubon Washington and other groups that the state's
current logging plan is unwise. Read more here
