New State of the Birds Report Shows Climate Change Impacts

Audubon Washington has just published its summary State of the Birds report outlining the effects of climate change on birds in our state’s Important Bird Areas, adapted from the longer report completed in February. National Audubon scientists analyzed forty years of avian data to show how changes on the landscape are causing bird populations shifts across the country; see the full national report here.

Spotted Towhee
Usually heard before they’re seen, these boldly patterned seven-inch birds forage vigorously on the ground by kicking both feet backwards in leaf litter to locate seeds, insects, and fruits. In 1995, the Rufous-sided Towhee was split into the Eastern and Spotted. Listen and learn more on BirdNote.
