Indiana Important Bird Areas Program

The National Audubon Society’s office in Indiana opened in 2005 with the beginning of the Important Bird Areas Program. Since that time, there have been 41 recognized Important Bird Areas identified in the state covering more than 720,000 acres, 15 of which were recognized as globally important. Now the program is focused on five priority projects:

  • Goose Pond Important Bird Area
  • The Indiana Bird Conservation Plan
  • Important Bird Area Monitoring
  • Urban Bird Conservation in Indianapolis
  • American Golden-Plover Important Bird Area
