from Holly Peirson:"Hello... I am VP-Administration of St. Paul AS (Mn.) and [newsletter] editor... When we took our March newsletter to the post office, ...we could not mail using the non-profit status... there was an article in it which promoted a for-profit organization. We had to pay a fine equal to the original postage amount to mail our newsletter as printed... paraphrasing... according to section 417 of the new 3rd class mailing requirements, a non-profit organization cannot promote, advertise, or describe items which may lead to for-profit organizations benefitting financially from our information.... Since one of the aims of our newsletter IS to promote local happenings, we are at a loss to understand all the implications of this statute...." Networker: Responses, anyone?. | |||
