Audubon Adventures:
Chapter Sponsors Recognized

With the newly revamped 1998 program and the continued participation of over 70% of all NAS chapters across the country, this past year saw more youngsters join the ranks of the 11 million Audubon Adventures "alumni." Special thanks to the chapter Education Chairs and Audubon Adventures Coordinators whose dedication and hard work continue to bring this program into their schools and communities.

To suit community needs, many Education Chairs customize their Audubon Adventures programs. This past February in Florida, Tampa Audubon hosted workshops to show educators how to maximize the usefulness of Audubon Adventures. In Southern California, the Los Angeles Education Center continues to deliver Audubon Adventures' Spanish edition successfully into Hispanic communities. New York City Audubon published "Look Around New York," a special student newsletter focusing on local environmental and natural history topics linked to Audubon Adventures themes. Texas Audubon and the Great Lakes Regional Office created special, region-specific materials for the Audubon Adventures kits going to students in Texas and Ohio. And in Nebraska, Rowe Sanctuary staff created crossword puzzles to accompany the program. Looking forward to next year, possible customized materials are under consideration for Florida, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska and New York.

Through Audubon Adventures we are able to reach young people. A child's participation is one way to take that vital first step out of the classroom or away from the television, and out the front door ... to the nearest creek, marsh or shoreline. Please join us in applauding the volunteer efforts of the Audubon Chapter Education Chairs and Audubon Adventures Coordinators ... the work they do is a credit to Audubon and to the culture and values that unite us all.

(Audubon Adventures Enrollment Kits become available in July '98 for the Sept. '98 school year.)
