Alaska's 16 national wildlife refuges constitute a cornerstone of wildlife conservation. But despite their immense ecological values, Alaska's refuges are continually under attack. Over the past ten years attempts have been made to destroy the integrity of refuges, by allow oil drilling on our public lands, authorizing roads and permitting helicopters in wilderness areas in Alaska. We believe that a concerted and coordinated nationwide response is necessary to combat these myriad threats and pursue important conservation strategies for Alaska's refuges. Thus, Audubon's Bringing Home Alaska program was born.
Bringing Home Alaska works to raise public awareness and appreciation for national wildlife refuges in Alaska, while building a constituency of supporters who will help defend these magnificent wild places. The stunning "Images of Alaska" video and issues-oriented slide show are available - free of charge - for use by individuals and chapters to host "house parties" for Alaska. Refuge Campaign staff will tutor chapters in making the most effective presentations. "The [Bringing Home Alaska] program helped me, as an advocacy leader, to generate enthusiasm and activism within our chapter." - Pat Sziber, Washington Crossing Audubon Society, NJ
