Membership Services
Both the National Audubon Society and its Chapters may recruit new members. Any new member recruited by the National Audubon Society is automatically assigned to a local Chapter, unless that member has requested placement with a specific Chapter or if there are no Chapters that include that member’s zip code.
Through the Membership Incentive Program, Chapters earn 100% of the first year’s membership ($20) for any members recruited by the Chapter. Please read more about the Membership Incentive Program to ensure that your Chapter will be credited properly for any newly recruited members. Audubon provides convenient membership recruitment brochures containing the appropriate sign-up forms.
Chapters may keep up-to-date on new member recruits through the Chapter Reporting System rosters (see below). Chapter leaders may decide how they would like to welcome National-recruited members to the Chapter and encourage them to get involved. See a sample new member welcome letter.
All renewals are managed by Audubon.

Chapter Territory
A Chapter territory consists of postal zip codes that are assigned by National in consultation with the Chapter and its State Office or the Chapter Services Office if there is no State Office. It is the general intent to assign a geographical area so that members who live within it can easily attend meetings and take part in Chapter activities, and in general become part of a local Audubon community. The file below lists the ZIP codes currently assigned to Chapters. Chapters are encouraged to review this list on an annual basis and to contact Chapter Services for proposed changes.
Current Chapter ZIP Code Territories, listed by Chapter and by Zip Code, March 2010
From time to time, Chapter territories may need to be adjusted to accommodate growth, new Chapter formation, or for other reasons. The National Audubon Society reserves the right to review and approve all such adjustments. In cases where there is contested territory between Chapters, adjustments will not proceed without discussion between those Chapters affected and the State Office or Chapter Services Office. All efforts will be made to come to mutually agreed-upon Chapter boundaries. Documents below include an explanation of the process of changing a Chapter’s territory, and a form to submit when changes are requested

Chapter Reporting System – Web based Chapter Membership Information
The Chapter Reporting System (CRS) is a convenient tool for viewing and downloading your Chapter’s membership rosters or membership incentive payment reports in a spreadsheet format. You may also print 2- or 3-column member mailing labels from a convenient Adobe PDF file. New rosters and change reports are posted by the end of the first week of each month. The membership roster contains all current members, whereas the change report shows only the records that have changed since the previous month. The incentive reports show payments made to the Chapter for Chapter-recruited Audubon members and are posted on a quarterly basis.
The CRS is available only to registered users—generally the Chapter President, Member Chair, Treasurer, and/or Newsletter Editors or other leaders who may need frequent access.
Chapters may use Rosters as tools for engaging, serving, and soliciting their members via newsletters, annual appeals, email lists, phone trees, etc. However, the membership list belongs to Audubon and may not be shared or exchanged without permission from National Audubon Society.
Direct any questions on the CRS to
chapter_services@audubon.org.
