Hunt Hill couldn’t exist without its dedicated and hard-working volunteers. Besides a good feeling inside for volunteering, Hunt Hill offers its volunteers specialized training, recognition during the annual volunteer party, and invitations to special volunteer activities such as the annual holiday party!

We consider volunteers an essential part of our staff. Please join us!

If you’d like to join our volunteer supporters, here are a few ideas on how you can get involved:

Environmental Educator: If you would like to teach children to understand, appreciate and conserve our natural resources, this is the position for you! Each spring we hold a training program to help you become familiar with Hunt Hill’s natural history and the activities we teach. You can work with school groups or youth groups. You don’t need any special scientific or education training, only a love for nature and people. Join this team today!
Program Instructor: If you have a special passion or expertise and would like to share it, we would love to have you present programs for our Wednesday Night Nature Series or during one of our camps, special events, or mini-programs. Slide shows, nature craft instruction, guided hikes are just a sample of what we’d like to offer!

Committee Member: TBA
Historian: Hunt Hill has a fascinating history, but we need folks who can help us organize the information we have, add to it, and design exhibits, slide shows and programs so we can spread the word about our history! This could be the perfect position for a history buff!
Maintenance Worker: With several older buildings and 501 acres, maintenance is an ongoing project! Activities could include painting, cleaning, construction, raking, trail work, opening up camp and shutting it down again at the end of the season. Please help our overworked seasonal maintenance team!
Baker: We often have special events where we provide baked goods. If you love to bake and are willing to donate baked goods, we need you. This is position where you can do your volunteer work at home!

Bulk Mailer: With a secretarial staff of one part-timer and a mailing list in the hundreds, this is a very important position! Folding newsletters, program guides, and letters, labeling, and preparing for mailing takes a lot of time and energy, but with a lot of folks we have fun socializing and the work goes much faster!

Gardener: Whether you like to raise flowers or vegetables, or even pumpkins, we have the garden area for you! We need help planting in the spring, maintaining the garden I the summer, and harvesting in the fall. If you like to work outdoors, this could be the place for you!
Phone-A-Thon Caller: One of our newest fundraising activities in the Hunt Hill Phone-a-thon. We need lots of volunteers to participate in calling current and past members of Hunt Hill and tell them about the progress and exciting events that go on at Hunt Hill. These people are expecting your call. If you like to talk and share your enthusiasm about Hunt Hill, this is the activity for you!

Prairie Fire Crew: Each spring, weather and other conditions permitting, we hold a prescribed burn in order to clear the prairie of invasive plants and allow natives to regenerate. No experience is necessary, just a good attitude and a willingness to get a little dirty!

Nature Store Clerk: If you have a flair for attracting customers and displaying merchandise in fun and creative ways, this could be the place for you! We also need volunteers to run the store during special events and programs.

Trail of Myths: Every October, lots of local people attend this fun and theatrical event. And we couldn’t do it without our volunteers. Volunteers act out characters along the trail, work as trail guides, run craft and food tables, and more! Be a part of this energetic and creative team during the Trail of Myths Open House.

Seamstress: Do you love to sew? Own a sewing machine? All of our costumes for the Trail of Myths programs were sewn, thanks to our seamstress volunteers. We need seamstresses to repair or creative new costumes.
Food Service: Do you like to cook or serve food? Then we need you aboard our kitchen team! During the summer months, late spring and early fall, we serve hundreds of meals to our weekly and special event guests. Food preparation and kitchen clean-up are not easy tasks, but very satisfying once accomplished. Join the food service crew for an event this season to get a taste of this fun volunteer opportunity!

Public Relations: Write and send news articles local media about Hunt Hill, take photos of various programs, or attend local/regional fairs with our display. Any of these public relations benefit Hunt Hill tremendously and allow you to be a representative of this special place!
