Special Events

Audubon Sharon currently holds four special events for the public each year. Volunteers are always needed for each event. Please contact the Center for more information on these events or if you are interested in volunteering.

MapleFest

Held on the middle Saturday in March.

this year: March 15, 2008

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

On-going guided 40-minute tours will lead visitors through the Center’s sugaring operation, including a working sugarhouse and a re-creation of Native American and early colonial sugaring methods.  Participants can watch as pure sugar maple sap is collected from the trees and turned into delicious maple syrup.  Fresh syrup will be available for purchase while supplies last.  Admission for the event is $5.00 adults and $3.00 children.    Depending on sap flow, the sugarhouse will also be open each weekend in March for visitors.  Call ahead to see if Audubon staff will be boiling sap.

Sharon Audubon Center Festival

Usually held the second weekend in August

this year: August 9 & 10, 2008

The festival features two full days of nature-related programs and walks for people of all ages.  Visitors can choose from a variety of programs they wish to attend including topics on various insects, raptors, trees & plants, amphibians, pond life, nature photography and more. Mini kids’ programs are also scheduled throughout both days.   In between sessions, festival goers can peruse the exhibits under the main tent such as the wildflower display and bluebird exhibit or shop in the Center’s Nature Store. Special performances take place each day and have included musical entertainment and live animal presentations.  The festival is held rain or shine. More information on the event will be available as the date draws near.

Enchanted Forest

Usually held the third weekend in October

this year:  October 17 & 18, 2008

On-going 40 minute candlelit walks take place between 6:30 and 8:00 PM.  Guided groups will meet friendly costumed animal characters along the trail (including a raccoon, fox, owl, bear, skunk and beaver) and hear how the animals live their lives on the Audubon grounds.  After the tour, participants can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate inside the Center building before taking a hayride back to the parking area.  This non-scary program is ideal for children up to 8 years old and their families. Admission is $4.00 for adults and children.  Participants should bring an extra flashlight if available.

Audubon Kids' Day

Held the last Sunday in October

this year: October 26, 2008

12-3 pm

This fun-filled autumn family event features various nature crafts and games for young children. Besides games and crafts, there is a small petting zoo and a hay bale maze constructed out of over 100 bales!  Food is served at the food tent including hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, candy apples, pumpkin pie, apple cider and more.  Following the crafts and games at 2:00 PM, children are invited to join in a costume parade around the Center grounds led by the Salisbury Band and some of the friendly animal characters from Audubon’s Enchanted Forest.  All children (as well as adults) are encouraged to wear a costume.  At the close of the parade, children and their families are treated to a special performance such as musical entertainment, live animal presentation, puppet show, etc.  Admission to the event is $7.00 per carload.  More information will be available as the event date nears.
