Saw-whet Owl Facts
The name "saw-whet" comes from the monotonous hooting call that sounds like the sharpening, or whetting, of a saw.

Saw-whet Owls are the smallest owls in eastern United States- weighing only a quarter pound.

They live most of the year in Canada and migrate south to the Connecticut area for the winter.

Jean-Claude
Chloe was hit by a car in 1993.  Chloe has a fractured wing tip.  Chloe can only fly a few feet, but not well enough to catch food.  In the wild, saw-whet owls eat bats, moths, and rodents.

Jean-Claude was hit by a car in Torrington in 1991.  Jean-Claude's left eye is damaged and the left wing is broken.

Jean-Claude had a band on the leg indicating that he or she (we don't know) had been banded the previous spring in Ontario, Canada.
