Name:  Trixie
Species:  Barred Owl, Strix varia
Trixie is our oldest resident bird, arriving at the Center in 1979.   Like Princess, she is imprinted on humans, meaning she was raised by a person and thinks she is a person rather than an owl.

Amazing Facts

Barred Owls make a hooting call that sounds like "Who cooks for you...Who cooks for you-all."

Owls' ears are located under the feathers next to their eyes.  One points up and the other points down, so they can locate where a sound is coming from.

Barred Owls have dark eyes, whereas many other owls have yellow eyes.
