ON THE COVER
John James Audubon captured the grace and beauty of the Great Egret in pursuit of prey. A century ago, the Great Egret's population was decimated by hunters who supplied the millinery industry with the bird's magnificent plumes. Public outrage over the slaughter led to the creation of the first Audubon societies. The Great Egret has since come to symbolize Audubon's commitment to bird conservation and is part of our logo.
