Environmental Education Internship
Location: Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm; Dayton, Ohio

Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm is located ten miles north of Dayton, Ohio along a river valley that holds the Stillwater River. Our 350 acres of natural areas and organic farm provide outstanding learning opportunities in a diverse and beautiful setting. The land starts atop flat farmland and leads down through woods, prairie, pond and meadow to the level of the river. Internships have been a part of our program for over thirty years.

An Aullwood internship is a full time responsibility that lasts anywhere from ten weeks to one year. Duties primarily take place on weekdays but also on some weekends and evenings.

Duration: Two or more sessions can be combined for a longer internship.

Primary Duties

Essential Functions:
Interns are involved in all aspects of the operation of a nature center. Primary responsibility is environmental education. Interns develop and teach programs to school groups, from pre-school through high school. During the summer interns develop and teach a variety of classes as part of our summer program. Interns plan and conduct programs for the general public and assist with special events and off-site exhibits/booths. Interns help care for resident animals at the center and care for livestock at the farm with weekly farm chores. Interns also identify, initiate and complete an approved project around a chosen field of interest, and serve in other capacities as needed to assist with day to day operations.

Qualifications (e.g., education, training, experience, licenses and skills)

Completion of two years of college level coursework in environmental studies, education or a related field. Some teaching experience and/or curriculum development is necessary. Strong natural history background, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, physical fitness, flexibility, self-motivation, ability to work well with others and a desire to learn.
