General Description |
Pickering Creek Audubon Center offers seasonal environmental education internships for college graduates and summer internships for college students and college graduates. Pickering Creek is a 400-acre Audubon Center, which includes a working farm, tidal creek, forest, wetlands, and meadows. Pickering Creek Audubon Center is part of a network National Audubon Education Centers. Please visit our website at www.pickeringcreek.org for more information.
Pickering Creek Audubon Center serves over 16,000 visitors each year, and teaches students from nine Maryland counties. Lessons taught at Pickering Creek Audubon Center are fully integrated into the Talbot County Public School system. Students have access to classes that run a range from farm and garden through wetland ecology. Hands-on field experiences provide meaningful outdoor experiences that correlate with student's school curriculum. School programs at Pickering Creek build student's relationship with the Chesapeake Bay and foster academic achievement. In addition to successful school programming, Pickering Creek offers a wide range of activities for individuals and families. Programs encompass the garden, adventure, and natural history. Both the school and community programs give the public an opportunity to experience the wonder of nature, and to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the land.
Duration of Internship: Full Time Seasonal, approximately September 5 - December 14 then approximately January 28-June 1
The mission of Pickering Creek Audubon Center is dedicated to community-based conservation of natural resources through environmental education and outreach on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

Primary Duties |
Essential Functions: School-year seasonal educators are responsible for preparing and teaching environmental education programs to all ages at our center, in local elementary schools, and at other sites on a daily basis. Programs are taught both indoors and outdoors. Seasonal educators are responsible for animal care and maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the sanctuary. This position provides the Intern with great teaching experience, naturalist training, an understanding of how a non-profit organization works as well as many rewarding experiences and networking opportunities.

Qualifications |
Enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to work long hours is essential. Desire to work with children outdoors is essential. A background in biology, environmental science, education, experience working with children or an interest in teaching outdoors is helpful. CPR and First Aid certification useful but not required. |

Physical and Mental Requirements |
Ability to hike short distances over moderate terrain, lift 20 lbs, and work outside in varying conditions is required; a college degree is helpful but not required. |

Salary |
Stipend: $225.00 per week, plus housing
