| Primary
Duties |
Essential Functions:
Interns are involved with all aspects of the operation
of a nature center. The primary responsibility is
environmental education. Interns develop curriculum
materials and teach a wide variety of topics (discovery
walks, pond exploration, birds of prey, reptiles,
insect investigation and more) to on-site and outreach
audiences of all ages. Summer Naturalist Interns will
work mainly with our week-long Explorers Programs.
Interns also help care for the resident reptiles,
hawks and owls in the main exhibit room, and help
admit and care for the injured birds that are brought
to the Center. The resident animals act as ambassadors
for their species and they are an integral part of
our education programs.
Additional duties include creating and maintaining
exhibits, answering requests for information, and
helping with many other facets of a nature center's
day to day operation. Interns may also develop their
own independent project around a chosen field of interest.
