Alliance Communications Associate

Purpose of Position
Now in its second century of conservation, Audubon is seeking a motivated individual in its New York City headquarters to fill the full-time role of Alliance Communications Associate.
The candidate’s role is to work closely with the Senior Alliance Communications Manager to build awareness of a soon-to-launch national conservation initiative (“Alliance”) being made possible by generous funding from a major corporation. We are seeking a self starter to provide media, public relations and e-communication support; write drafts and disseminate media and marketing materials; and help promote The Alliance’s vision, activities and accomplishments to key Audubon and partner audiences.
The Alliance Communications Associate will become a part of a communications/ education team split between New York and Washington D.C and will quickly have the opportunity to take the reigns, work independently and manage projects from concept to production.

| Position Priorities |
- Contribute to the writing of pitch letters, press releases, web articles and other editorial products related to the program’s grant recipients, volunteer events and other Alliance conservation activities
- Identify appropriate media for upcoming pitches
- Compile targeted lists of media throughout the U.S. through various means (e.g. Cision, Yellow Book, etc)
- Secure and facilitate media interviews for key Alliance representatives
- Assist with press tour pitching, scheduling and logistics
- Generate positive media coverage and broader community awareness of Alliance projects, personnel, initiatives and achievements
- Read, identify and compile Alliance media coverage
- Monitor, make recommendations and edit directly content on Alliance web site
- Analyze web statistics and compile periodic reports on web visitation to senior staff
- Assist with e-communications outreach to engage target audiences for participation in volunteer days and other project initiatives.
- Liaise directly with video and photographic vendors to document partnership activities and results
- Help coordinating with Audubon State Offices, Centers and Chapters for volunteer and press events, press releases and outreach
- Keep communications team abreast of timelines and deadlines
- Perform related duties, as assigned.

Equipment:
Computer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine
Qualifications:
- Two to three years professional experience working in communications or journalism
- BA degree required, preferably in communications, marketing or journalism
- Commitment to environmental protection
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with Bacons or Vocus
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
- Knowledge of web technologies and applications, including content management, web traffic, and social networking, a PLUS
