Ohio Regional Grassroots Coordinator

Purpose of the position
The Grassroots Coordinator actively identifies, builds and maintains relationships with advocates, likeminded organizations, non-traditional partners and general public in Ohio and other states to help promote Audubon’s public policy agenda in and around Ohio. The Coordinator mobilizes the advocates to affect the outcome of legislation and public policy, and builds a bridge between public officials and their Audubon constituency.

| Position Priorities |
|
Essential Functions:
- Identify, build and maintain relationships with Audubon Chapters, member advocates, and the general public to help promote the Audubon advocacy agenda in Ohio, with emphasis on water and Great Lakes issues.
- Identify and implement methods of building identifiable relationships between legislators and their Audubon constituency in Ohio.
- Identify and implement opportunities to recruit new members and volunteers; activate volunteers, and host members advocacy meetings and create advocacy awareness efforts to further Audubon’s advocacy agenda and enhance Audubon’s visibility in the advocacy arena in Ohio.
- Mobilize, track and evaluate activities of advocates and overall advocacy efforts legislative districts in and around Ohio.
- Coordinate and lead advocacy trainings and workshops in Ohio.
- Assist in development and production of grassroots materials.
- Work with Development Director to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors (including individuals, foundations, corporations, government agencies and other entities) to provide financial support for the work of the Grassroots Coordinator.
- Other duties as directed, including comparable duties in other states in the region.
Additional Functions:
- Frequent travel, including meetings with chapter leaders and advocates, public officials, representatives of cooperating organizations, media representatives and the general public.

Qualifications (e.g., education, training, experience, licenses and skills) |
B.A./B.S. required; 3 years grassroots organizing or related campaign experience required; ability to work independently; knowledge of legislative process, public speaking experience required; internet advocacy, direct mail, phone banking campaign experience a plus.
Experience: (e.g., lifting, reaching, climb, push/pull, etc.)
Occasional limited lifting, pushing and pulling related to the set-up and take-down of tabling events and conferences
Equipment: (e.g., computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machines, telephone, etc.)
