Human Resources Generalist
Location: NYC- Headquarters
Immediate Supervisor: Senior HR Manager
Division/Department: Human Resources

 
Purpose of the position

The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for performing HR related duties on a professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas working closely with the Senior HR Manager and the VP of HR: employee relations, training, recruitment/employment, benefit administration, affirmative action, and employment equity programs.

 
Essential Functions
  • Manages Human Resources policies, plans and procedures for employees throughout the organization. Responsible for development, modification and implementation of personnel policies, forms and procedures including employee handbook and Operations Manual.
  • Provides guidance on employee relations issues such as: performance management, employee concerns and suggestions, policy interpretations and administration. Oversees all issues to successful conflict resolution.
  • Partners with the Legal department in counseling staff and conducting investigations on employee relations and workplace issues.
  • Ensures employment compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting. Stays abreast of changes in all areas of employment law and workplace best practice(s) and applies and recommends updates to Audubon policies/procedures/forms  based on acquired knowledge.
  • Conducts research, leads projects and creates internal communications as assigned.
  • Coordinates implementation of service, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff and advises management about these services and programs.
  • Leads special projects as assigned by VP of HR and Sr. HR Manager relating to compensation, on-boarding, benefits administration, training and development and recruitment and other areas.

 

Additional Functions
  • Review of job descriptions and ability to determine FLSA classification
  • Partner with Contracts and Finance staff to monitor Employee Housing and adherence to IRS guidelines
  • Train HR Coordinator in developing the knowledge and skill required to advance their capacity within the HR department

 

Relationships

Internal: All Audubon staff

External: Vendors, consultants, staffing agencies

 

Equipment: (e.g., computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machines, telephone, BlackBerry etc.)

Computer, calculator, fax machine, scanner, photocopier

 

Qualifications: (e.g., education, training, experience, and skills)
  • Bachelors degree or higher in the field of Human Resources Management, Business Management, or Organizational Behavior preferred
  • 5 years full-time professional and progressive HR experience
  • Ability to handle confidential information and difficult situations
  • A team-player with the ability to multi-task, remain organized and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook
  • Familiarity with ADP systems – HRB and PCPW for Payroll
  • Strong writing and communication skills
