Tax Manager

Purpose of Position |
To manage tax compliance for the organization.

Essential Functions |
- Identify tax issues; advise Controller, CFO and legal department.
- Annual preparation of IRS Form 990, 990-T, 1120, multi-state foreign information filings, doing business and charitable registration filings for the not-for-profit, its subsidiaries and taxable entities; preparation of sales and use tax returns; other miscellaneous tax filings.
- Responsible for the preparation of the Form 5500 for pension/welfare plans: calculate estimated tax liability.
- Abreast of tax changes that affect the organization.
- Perform primary tax research for income, payroll and sales and use tax.
- Preparation of the IRS 1099-Misc.
- Act as liaison with public accounting firm partner on tax issues.
- Manage Payroll Associates and 1 staff accountant.
- Strong knowledge of UBIT and posses the technical skills required to identify UBIT situations.

Additional Functions
Assist the Controller in development and implementation of tax policies and procedures.

Relationships |
Internal: Interact on a daily basis with headquarter staff.
External: Deloitte tax partner, field staff and government entities.

Qualifications (e.g., education, training, experience, licenses and skills) |
- 5 to 7 years of Not-For-Profit tax experience gained in a well-regarded accounting firm and /or law firm and /or non profit organization
- Bachelor’s or Master degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university
- Licensed CPA or JD degree from an accredited college/university
- Extensive experience in preparation of IRS Form 990 and Form 990T
- Knowledge of IRS codes
- Knowledge of how to use guidestar.com and IRS.Gov
- Excellent advisory and compliance skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex tax matters.
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Demonstrate ability managing multiple projects
- Able to prioritize and work under pressure
- Excellent organizational and time management skills required
- Abreast of exempt organization tax issues and able to research tax matters quickly
- Minimum of 4 years experience working for a Big four or medium sized CPA firm in the tax department
- Strong Computer skills required – excel, word
- Experience using Prosystem tax software
