Visitor Center Greeter and Volunteer Coordinator
Location: Mitchell Lake Audubon Center
Part Time: 16 - 20 hours per week
Start Date: June 1, 2008

 

Purpose of the Position

Work in the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center’s reception area to greet guests, process nature store purchases, recruit volunteers and assist volunteers and staff docents.

Center Greeter and Volunteer Coordinator works with MLAC staff to maintain volunteer records, schedule, manage, and support Center volunteers. Works with staff to provide volunteer support wherever needed.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assists in recruiting volunteers.
  • Works with program staff to match volunteer needs, interests and abilities with volunteer positions as appropriate.
  • Coordinate background checks for volunteers with the National Audubon Society office and the Center Director.
  • Schedule volunteers to assist with programs and events.
  • Maintain records of all volunteers, hours contributed, anniversary dates, and tasks assigned, etc.

 

Additional Functions

  • Provide office support as needed, and assist volunteers as needed to accomplish time-sensitive tasks.
  • Support overall operations of Center as needed.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator position includes a minimum of 12 hours each weekend.
 

Relationships:

Internal:  Must work well with all staff, including Center Director, Education Manager and Administrative Assistant. Will coordinate with staff to meet their needs for volunteer help. Will coordinate training of volunteers along with the Center Director and Education Manager and assist as needed; will help to supervise volunteers.

External:  Must be able to work well with the public, Audubon members and all potential volunteer groups and individuals.

 

Equipment: (e.g., computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machines, telephone, etc.)

Must be proficient in word processing, email, database, copiers, phone and fax machines.

 

Qualifications: (e.g., education, training, experience, licenses and skills)

Experience working with the public is desired.  Experience as a volunteer and/or in working with volunteers highly desired. Basic writing and speaking skills required. Good human relations skills essential.

 

Physical Requirements: (e.g., lifting, reaching, climb, push/pull, etc.) 

Must be physically fit and able to walk and/or hike throughout the grounds. Must be able to carry a 20 lb. pack.
