Kids Grow Up So Fast

This summer Project Puffin’s resident puffling has taught us all a little something about growing up.

On the evening of August 11, Joy, the puffin chick gracing our bird cam this summer, left her family and home to take to the seas. For those who have watched her hatch and grow, it was a bittersweet departure. But instead of wistfully wishing for the days when a website was all that was needed to peek in on the puffin burrow, this gallery shares some of the best moments from our summer in the burrow.

From her hatch to those awkward feather days, Phoebe and Finn’s puffling has been, well, a joy to watch. Joy will now begin more of a mysterious adventure as she lives on the open ocean for the next two to three years. While we are unable to watch this journey, Joy has been banded and Project Puffin is tracking her whereabouts until she will likely return to the coast of Maine, maybe even to Seal Island to find a burrow of her own.

Until then, we can still join Phoebe and Finn through the burrow cam and look back upon these adorable memories.
