Common Birds In Decline Press Room

Following are the biographies for the conference participants:

Carol Browner, Chair, National Audubon Society
Ms. Browner served as Administrator to the US Environmental Protection Agency from 1993 to 2001. She is the longest-serving Administrator in EPA history—staying through both terms of the Clinton presidency. Accomplishments during her tenure include enacting the strongest-ever national air pollution standards, leading comprehensive clean water programs, and leveraging more than $1 billion in public and private funds to cleanup brownfields.

Before she was Administrator, Ms. Browner headed the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation, was legislative director to Senator Al Gore, and worked on the staff of Senator Lawton Chiles. She currently holds the title of Principal for the Albright Group, LLC, headed by former Secretary of State Madeline Albright.

Greg Butcher, Director Bird Conservation, National Audubon Society
Greg Butcher is Director of Bird Conservation for the National Audubon Society, working with the State of the Birds Report, the WatchList of birds of conservation need, BirdLife International, the North American Bird Conservation Initiative, Partners in Flight, and policy issues related to migratory birds.

Dr. Butcher has a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Washington. He has previously served as Director of Bird Population Studies at Cornell University's Laboratory of Ornithology and is an elective member of the American Ornithologists' Union (AOU).

Scott Weidensaul
Mr. Weidensaul has written more than two dozen books on natural history, including his widely acclaimed Living on the Wind: Across the Hemisphere with Migratory Birds, which was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction.

Mr. Weidensaul's writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including Smithsonian, the New York Times, Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife and our own Audubon magazine, among many others. He lectures widely on conservation and nature.

In addition to writing about wildlife, Mr. Weidensaul is an active field researcher whose work focuses on bird migration.

Mike Daulton, Director of Conservation Policy, National Audubon Society
Mike Daulton is Director of Conservation Policy for the National Audubon Society. With eight years of experience in Audubon’s Public Policy Division in Washington, DC, Mr. Daulton is a veteran of legislative battles over the fate of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Endangered Species Act, and has broad expertise in issues facing America’s public lands and migratory birds.

Mr. Daulton has a Master of Public Policy degree from Duke University and a B.S. in Ecology from the University of California, San Diego. He has previously worked as a program evaluator for the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
