Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge Acquires 32 Acres

New land was acquired this week for the Silvio O. Conte National Fish & Wildlife Refuge further protecting the environment surrounding the Fort River, one of the major tributaries to the Connecticut River.

Audubon plays a key role in securing Land and Water Conservation Funds for the Refuge and also heads up the Friends of Silvio O. Conte NFWR group.  Since it is in the Long Island Sound Watershed, this acquisition helps to preserve water quality and is a potential key site to support a source population for grassland birds in the southern New England grassland bird metapopulations.
